About the practice

I offer individual sound sessions, small listening groups, and shakuhachi concerts in Kyoto, with selected sessions available online. The music moves between traditional pieces, sustained tones, and quiet improvisation, with space for silence before and after each passage. I also teach breath, posture, tone production, and introductory repertoire. My teaching is grounded in long-term study of shakuhachi performance and ensemble practice, with attention to the musical and historical setting of each piece. Beginners can purchase a suitable introductory shakuhachi for use in classes.
