About the practice
I lead substance-free Song Circles in Los Angeles using voice, acoustic guitar, frame drum, and simple call-and-response singing. People may sing, listen, or pause at any time; no performance experience is expected. We begin quietly, build the shared music gradually, and leave room for reflection before closing. The repertoire includes original songs, devotional songs, and music influenced by South American ceremonial song traditions. I identify a song’s writer, language, and source whenever they are known. These gatherings do not reproduce Indigenous ceremonies, and no ayahuasca, plant medicine, cacao, or intoxicants are used.
